One of the first ways the Emily McCarthy Studio began making it’s mark on the world was by creating gorgeous, intricate wedding paper suites for brides of all kinds. To this day, weddings are a huge part of our  creative work here at the studio. What you may not realize is that wedding paper goes far beyond a traditional invitation and response card. The way we are able to work with fabulous brides, of course, is through our phenomenal network of wedding planners. On this particular wedding we got to work with the best of the best, one of our great friends here – Ashley Rhodes of Ashley Rhodes Event Designs. Her events surpass expectations and go right into the record books every single time.

That’s why we’re so honored to show you one of the weddings we recently outfitted with invitations and day of accessories. You’ll see that there’s no limit to how custom your day can be. Let’s take a look at this dreamy Charleston affair – the Alvarez & Cash wedding.

We were seeing life through rose colored glasses as we took into account everything from the church, the reception site, and all of the little things that bride, Ana, was conveying. Emily made it her goal to bring all of these small details to life on paper.

This musical couple wanted something that stayed true to the elegant and romantic scene they wanted to create, but also nodded to their deep roots.

The wedding program stayed crisp and beautiful with gold flourishes and a couture monogram created specifically for the couple.

Small touches like these photos created a tie that binds – family. Everywhere you looked, you were surrounded by those that joined them on this path to finding love – both past, and present. The small labels next to them identified just who each person was.

The menus were created in the same style so that everything truly felt connected throughout the whole experience.

You could even find Emily McCarthy touches on the food trays! Not only did these fabulous lucite trays present exactly what each server was offering, they continued the theme of the wedding paper suite.

The couture monogram gave this wedding cake a special life of its own. Simple elegance was really shown throughout this entire day.

The couture monogram didn’t end with just cocktail napkins and the cake – the bride even had these beautiful custom pillows commissioned to keep everything ultra personal.

What’s a party without a signature cocktail? This couple opted for something very personal to them, and we created a unique napkin to showcase the recipe.

One final touch were the take-aways. Something to remind each guest that love is truly sweet, indeed. These small tags stayed true to the entire concept bringing the event full circle. From start to finish, there was a continuity that shone through and made it clear that every detail was truly cared for.

Thank you, Ana and John, for letting us take your vision and translate it through our design. It was such an honor working with you!

Emily McCarthy

One of our most favorite things to do at the shoppe is create modern, customized, gorgeous stationary wardrobes for couples to celebrate the most exciting day of their lives: their wedding. First things are always first when it comes to this – getting to know the couple, deciding what elements are important to them to convey in their style, and then creating an idea that truly embodies their unique originality.

Emily was recently asked to be featured in Southern Bride for her wedding work, and she couldn’t have been more obliged.

Emily’s vision can cater to any sense of style or any overall feeling a couple wishes to create. Your wedding means so much to you, it’s our goal to make sure that every aspect of it is perfectly displayed the way you want! After all, it’s the party of a lifetime.

Miss Natalie contacting me to design her custom wedding invitations inspired by her love of equestrian and the ceremony location: her family home and gardens. Natalie let me run with the design and I was SO excited when she loved it as much as I did. It is one thing to see an invitation on the computer, but to see it come to life in beautiful engraving – it is truly to-die-for!  Natalie wasn’t necessarily a monogram gal, but she wanted something inspired by her love of equestrian and adorned with garden splendor. We engraved the design in Gold on 6-Ply Heavy Cardstock. The color pop was a pale Mint color and also lined the envelopes.

Due the popularity of the  MONOGRAM ETIQUETTE GUIDE and INVITATION ETIQUETTE GUIDE, we decided to work up a lovely little WEDDING INVITATION 101 Guideline to share!

Over at EMMA J DESIGN, we often receive questions about stationery format, etiquette and types of products available. We thought this would help everyone know the various wedding invitation items available custom suites.

At EMMA J DESIGN, we have been busy bees gearing up for Wedding Season! We just LOVE how Jessica and Jack’s custom wedding paper turned out for their October nuptials.

Bride Jessica is known for her fashion sense and true Southern traditions. We envisioned Garden and Gun meets New York Fashion Week. Jessica and Jack’s wedding was anything but standard and included details such as their Couture Monogram embroidered on linens, gold foil coasters and napkins. For the invitation wardrobe, we pressed their Couture Monogram into a luxurious double weight Crane paper and letterpressed hand lettered calligraphy by Bride Whelan in a taupe ink. The edges were gilded with gold foil and were divine!

    Hi Emma!

The lavender wedding programs are absolutely beautiful. What a great idea to include lavender on the program itself. xx

I had the pleasure of working with the beautiful Emily Yocco and her fiancé Alex on their October wedding. Sebrell Smith Designer Events did an amazing job on their wedding! Emily wanted something different for her wedding invitation and loved the look of calligraphy. We printed the design on 220lb Crane Lettre in a rich black on ecru. We also designed the back pattern from illustrating the flowers on Emily’s custom wedding gown. Alex created/designed the original disposable flask and has become quite successful – they added a custom monogram to the flasks as favors to their guests. Email me [email protected] if you are interested in a similar design!

What a beautiful day this turned out to be! Or should I say, beautiful 3-day event celebrating the marriage of Deanna and Joe. The fabulous event was designed and coordinated by Sebrell Smith Designer Events and photographed by the talented Chia and Hon along with Bryan Stovall. You can also view the video from Savannah Wedding Films here. Here are a few shots from the wedding day and reception. The beautiful calligraphy was hand lettered by Bride Whelan. More details to come for the pre-wedding oyster roast and rehearsal dinner.

Loving how my long-time friend, Kelley’s, wedding turned out in Rome, Georgia! Kelley and Kevin wanted a vintage country chic wedding and I do believe they pulled it off with flying shades of pink, turquoise and purple! What a pleasure to be a part of their special day and Pam Jones from Paris Mountain Photography did an amazing job with the photos. Check out some of the custom details from emma j design. The bride did a lot of DYI decor and it was all stunning and colorful in person.
