I woke up this morning on my 33rd birthday feeling overwhelmed with gratitude for my so many things – all of the blessings God has bestowed on my family and I’m just in awe of His love and grace. As our Christmas card said this year, “From the fullness of grace we have received one blessing after another”. John 1:16. I just have a hard time believing this beautiful life sometimes – do we deserve it? I keep thinking that something bad has to happen soon – this is just too good to be true! I would like to share my thoughts on control – many would think that I’m a control freak and maybe sometimes I am – when it comes to making things pretty! However, when it comes to the fate of my life and business, I truly hand it over to God. You don’t usually see me stressed about the business, where the next pay check will come from or how we will take on another child. I just strongly believe that if you put your life in the hands of the man upstairs, He will ALWAYS take care of you. I try not to have too many expectations about what life will bring either – I try to look at everything as a surprise and blessing. We don’t have control over our life, but we do have control over how we react to what it throws our way. We have a choice in what we do with the hand we are dealt – what have you done with your hand this year?

As we move through 9 months of preparation for our sweet baby girl, my mind is racing on how we will manage the new addition. I know that it will be hard but it will be worth it. I’ve chatted with fellow moms before about loving another child as much as I love Rhett. It’s truly amazing that God enables us to double that love – how wonderful that must feel. And I truly believe that having children changed my life and all of a sudden, life made so much sense. Before children, something was missing and I know now that it was becoming a mother that would complete me.

…and then there’s THIS guy – what would I do without him? His continued love and support means the world to me. He is my sounding board, flip-side thinker and rock – and let’s talk about how much he has been working lately. Due to a crazy deadline in construction, he has worked 80 hours a week over the holidays. While we are thankful for work – the timing kind of stinks! We have missed having him around for Christmas and I’m personally looking forward to some romantic time for dinner tonight! Glad to have deadline wrapping up this week so we can get back to normal! And we celebrated 8 years of marriage bliss this year – we are well on our way to 10 years and I’m already concocting a fabulous getaway!

This little nugget brings such joy to my life – I can’t imagine life without him now. Who was I before this love happened to me? I know he will be an amazing big brother and he constantly asked how the baby is growing inside mommy’s tummy. I plan on soaking up every minute of our quiet time during the next few months. The little things will be come the big things to treasure as he grows older.

As far as the year, here’s a little recap of some of my favorite moments!

Around the house, we had a big big photoshoot for an amazing magazine due out on stands this year. More details to come when I’m allowed to spill the beans! It pushed us to do some major work around the house that we’ve been wanting to do since we moved in 3 years ago. We changed the exterior of the house tremendously, new paint color, hardware, lighting, etc and also removed the front porch railing for a low-country look. We also worked on a few room renovations and the biggy…gutted the kitchen and removed a wall to create an open concept!

In the world of business, this has been the year!

A new brand and website was launched to better represent my business and my overall vision for the future.

2014websiteSome incredible mentions and features in some of my favorite magazines! (Southern Living Editor’s Letter below)

THREE exciting partnerships/licensing deals with my favorite manufacturers. PSA Essentials, Maple Leaf at Home and AR-EN Party Printers. Because of these wonderful partnerships, the Emily McCarthy lifestyle products are available to retailers nationwide.

and this biggy – I kept the business at home as long as I could but it started limiting the possibilities for growth and logistics. Meredith went full-time and I moved the business to this wonderful community of creatives called Cohen’s Retreat. We have already gone from 1 cottage to 2 cottages plus a retail Shoppe inside the main building.

I’m so thrilled to see what 2015 brings to my newest venture, the Cocktail Candle! I’ve designed this candle to serve as a yummy scented candle then to a fabulous cocktail glass after use. You can purchase them online here! The scent was something I worked really hard to perfect – I wanted to capture the feeling of drinking Prosecco on the Amalfi coast – light, citrus, sugar and bubbles.

All in all, it’s been a fabulous year! and I’m excited to see what 33 will bring! I’m well aware that none of this would be possible without the support and love of my family and friends. I’m truly grateful for every single one of them – although too many list, you all know who you are. I hope you all know how special you are to me!

I hope you have a wonderful NYE celebration planned for tonight – I will be ringing in the new year with sparking apple juice and a kiss from my hubby.
